Mir Osman Ali Khan, aka Asaf Jah-VII, was the greatest Nizam of Hyderabad.

 

1)Mir Osman Ali Khan - The richest man in the world then.

During the 1930s, he was one of the richest men in the world. His estimated net worth at present would have been $230 billion. Isn't that a huge amount???          $50 million worth of diamonds was used as a paperweight? 

 

2) How big was the kingdom of Nizam?

To give an example of what Hyderabad state has looked like in terms of area, Scotland+England = Hyderabad. The former Hyderabad state was a princely state that included some parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra(These are now India's states). Entire Hyderabad was his ruling area.

 

3)Nizam against extravagance.

He used to spend money wisely; despite being a Nizam, he used to wear torn and ripped clothes and sometimes even borrow half-used cigarettes from his people. Of course, this is a fun fact, lol.

Hyderabad was known to be as "CITY OF PEARLS" because of immense pearls trading. He had more pearls collection than the Olympic swimming pool can be filled with pearls.

 

5)Mir Mahboob Ali Khan's Diamond.

Nizam Mahboob Ali Khan was his father. Once he searched his father's footwear, he found the world's 5th precious diamond, to his surprise. 6)Nizam gift to Queen Elizabeth.

Nizam once gifted a diamond necklace to The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth. That necklace was named as Nizam of Hyderabad necklace.

Here comes a story to remember 

Nizam once visited London, and out of his interest in cars and automobiles, he visited the showroom for Rolls Royce. One of the workers insulted him badly for his subtle look and dress sense. Without making any chaos, he returned to Hyderabad, and then comes the real twist, Nizam bought and imported 5 Rolls Royce and to Hyderabad and installed 2 brooms to its bumper. He then made it like a sweeping machine to sweep the roads and lanes. Entire Hyderabad state witnessed this incident. Even today, when talking pride about Hyderabad, we still use this incident as an example.       

 

 

7)Nizam's contribution to the government of India during wars.

After Independence, India had to deal with wars with Pakistan and China. The then President of India requested Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan for donations. He donated 5000kg of gold to the Indian Government, which is the highest contribution given even today.

 

8) Developments of Hyderabad

Major Developments of Hyderabad state were initiated by Nizam Asaf Jah -VII. Osmania Hospital, Osmania University, Nizam Institute of Medical Science, Nizam College, Himayat Hussain, and Osman Sagar, to name a few.

9) Nizam insisting on naming road transport busses after his mother.

Nizam insisted that the new bus services in Hyderabad be named after his mother, Zahra Begum since he was very attached to his mother. However, his ministers advised him against the idea. Nizam agreed but insisted that atleast the letter 'Z' be added to all number plates of busses in memory of his late mother. Nizam handed over his dominance to the Government of India. One of the agreements he reached with the Indian Government was that every bus registration number of State's Road Transport should continue to include the letter 'Z' and the Government agreed to this.

10) Nizam's kingdom during his death

The last Nizam had a total of 14,718; employees when he died. There were about 3,000 Arab bodyguards in his main palace alone, 28 people to draw drinking water, 38 to dust chandeliers, and several to grind walnut ls and others to prepare betel nuts for him to chew.
